Description

The book points out why it is necessary to understand the secrets of speech before one can make statements about it. Even though it dances on our own tongue, it is as complex as our eyes or ears. However much one might study it or conduct research about it, none can confidently say that he has completely understood it.

It is still necessary to make use of the knowledge that we have acquired about speech. This book briefly describes the nature of that knowledge. People have different kinds of ideas about speech, language, reading and writing. This book points out, on the basis of current knowledge, that many such ideas are mistaken.

For example if, in order to make children more proficient in English, we keep them away from their mother tongue, or make them dislike their mother tongue, we in effect remove the basis itself of speech or language from them. In fact, children who have learnt two or more languages are way ahead of children who have learnt only one language.

People who do not know this allow their children to learn English at the cost of their mother language, but as a result, children also fail to properly develop their mental capabilities.
