Description
Generally, the rules that describe the structure of Sanskrit words are used to describe the words of Kannada as well. But since Kannada is very different from Sanskrit, the above method fails to provide a satisfactory description of the structure of Kannada words.
The present book directly examines the words of Kannada, and finds out the kinds of rules that actually underlie their formation; it points out how different types of affixes are used to form new words from them, and how two (or more) of them are joined together to form compound words.
Because of this, the book has been able to provide a better picture of the structure of Kannada words. Even the words that are borrowed from Sanskrit show structures that belong to Kannada grammar. Hence, using the rules of Sanskrit grammar while describing them would be incorrect. These have been pointed out in this book.
